Privacy Notice
Last updated October 2026
Komunna is a local platform for news, jobs, deals, businesses, events and property. We respect your privacy and handle personal information in line with the Data Privacy Act of 2012 (Republic Act No. 10173) and its rules. This notice explains what we collect, why, who sees it, how long we keep it, and the choices and rights you have.
Who is responsible
Komunna is the personal information controller. Questions, requests and complaints about your data go to our Data Protection Officer at privacy@komunna.com.
What we collect
- Your account: email address, name, and a password (stored only as a secure hash by our sign-in provider). If you sign in with Google, we receive your name and email from Google.
- Your choices: the area and kinds of content you want to see, saved items, job alerts and, if you create one, your private job profile.
- What you submit: business, event, property and job listings, photos, descriptions and contact details you choose to publish, and messages or enquiries you send.
- When you ask about a property: the name, mobile number and optional email you give to see a lister’s contact number. We pass them to that lister so they can reach you, and keep them with the enquiry.
- Invites and credits: the invite code you used or shared, and your credit balance and history.
- Waitlists and support: your email if you join a waitlist or write to us.
- Technical data: to stop abuse we keep a short-lived, scrambled (hashed) form of your network address to limit repeated requests. We count visits to pages and taps on call or directions buttons as anonymous totals, with no cookie and nothing that identifies you.
Why we use it
- To run your account and the features you ask for (contract).
- To show matches that suit you, only if you agree to personalization cookies (consent).
- To count visits as plain totals (device, browser, country, and where you came from), with no cookie, no ID and no IP address kept. It is skipped if your browser says Do Not Track.
- To order your feed, using the sections you chose, your area, what you liked or disliked in the feed, and how the community reacted. It does not use what you looked at.
- To keep the site safe, prevent fraud and spam, and review what is posted (legitimate interests).
- To meet legal obligations and respond to lawful requests.
- To email you about your account, and, if you opted in, about job alerts or the waitlist.
We do not sell your personal information. We use analytics or advertising-measurement tools (Google Analytics, the Meta Pixel) only if the site owner has turned them on and you allow them in Cookie settings.
Cookies and similar technology
Essential items are always on because the site cannot work without them. Optional items stay off until you say yes, and you can change your mind at any time.
| Name | Type | What it does | Kept for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sign-in session (sb-…-auth-token) | Essential | Keeps you signed in and protects your account. | Until you sign out, or about a week |
| ik_consent | Essential | Remembers your cookie choice so we do not ask again. | 12 months |
| ik_ref | Essential | Remembers the invite code if you open a friend's invite link, so credits can be given when you sign up. | 30 days |
| ik_ctx | Personalization (only with your consent) | Remembers the place and kinds of jobs or property you looked at, on this device, to show better matches. | 90 days |
| _ga, _ga_… (Google Analytics) | Statistics (only with your consent, and only if turned on) | Shows us which pages are used and how people find the site, so we can improve it. Run by Google. | Up to 2 years |
| _fbp (Meta Pixel) | Marketing (only with your consent, and only if turned on) | Lets us measure how our ads and posts on Facebook and Instagram perform. Run by Meta. | Up to 3 months |
| ik_place | Essential (a choice you make) | Remembers the province you picked, or that you tapped “use my location”, so the home page and lists start in your area. It holds only a province name. Your position is worked out on your device and never sent to us. | 12 months |
| ik_unlocked | Essential | Remembers which property contact numbers you already asked to see on this device, so you are not asked twice. | 30 days |
| ik_install_dismissed (local storage) | Essential | Remembers that you closed the “add to home screen” card. | 30 days |
Change or withdraw your choice any time. If your browser sends Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control, we treat optional cookies as declined.
Who we share it with
- Service providers that host our site and database, deliver email and run sign-in. They may store data outside the Philippines and may use it only to serve us, under agreements that require them to protect it.
- Google and Meta, only if you allow statistics or marketing cookies. They receive the pages you visit and a cookie identifier, and process them outside the Philippines under their own terms. You can withdraw at any time in Cookie settings.
- The public, only what you choose to publish, such as a business listing, a job post or an article byline.
- Advertisers and listers see anonymous totals, such as how many people viewed or contacted them. They do not receive your identity unless you contact them yourself.
- Authorities, where the law requires it.
How long we keep it
We keep account data while your account is open, and listings while they are live. Anonymous counts are kept as totals. Credits expire 12 months after they are earned. When you close your account we delete or anonymize your personal information, except what we must keep by law or to resolve a dispute.
Your rights
Under the Data Privacy Act you have the right to:
- be informed about how your data is used (this notice);
- access a copy of your personal information;
- correct information that is wrong or out of date;
- object to processing, and withdraw consent at any time (see Cookie settings above);
- ask us to erase or block your data, including closing your account;
- receive your data in a common electronic format (portability);
- be compensated for damages caused by inaccurate, false or unlawfully obtained data; and
- file a complaint with the National Privacy Commission at privacy.gov.ph.
To use any of these rights, email privacy@komunna.com from the address on your account. We will reply within 15 days.
How we protect it
We use encrypted connections, access controls so people see only their own data, limits on repeated requests, and regular review of who can access what. No system is perfectly secure. If a breach puts you at real risk, we will tell you and the National Privacy Commission within the time the law requires.
Children
Komunna is meant for adults. If you are under 18, please use it with a parent or guardian.
Changes
If we change this notice in a way that matters, we will update the date above and, where needed, ask for your choice again.
