More than half of Filipino adults want Vice President Sara Duterte to personally testify before the Senate impeachment court, according to a nationwide survey released by Pulse Asia Research on October 14.

The September 2026 survey found that 51% of respondents favored Duterte’s personal appearance during her impeachment trial. Meanwhile, 34% said she should not testify in person, 14% were undecided, and 1% declined to answer.

The survey was conducted from September 17 to 24 through face-to-face interviews with 2,400 Filipino adults aged 18 and older. Its national results have a margin of error of plus or minus two percentage points at a 95% confidence level.

Views Differ Across Regions

Support for Duterte’s personal appearance varied considerably across the country.

In the National Capital Region, 66% of respondents wanted her to testify, while 21% opposed her personal appearance. In the rest of Luzon, 61% supported her testimony, compared with 20% who disagreed.

The results were more divided in the Visayas, where 43% wanted Duterte to testify and an equal share opposed the idea. Another 11% were undecided, while 2% declined to answer.

In Mindanao, where the Duterte family has a strong political base, 61% said the vice president should not personally testify. Only 32% supported her appearance, while 7% were undecided.

The regional results suggest that public opinion on whether Duterte should personally face the impeachment court differs sharply across the country.

Public Opinion on Unexplained Wealth Allegations

Pulse Asia also measured respondents’ views on allegations concerning Duterte’s supposedly unexplained wealth.

The September survey found that 29% considered the allegations likely to be true, up two percentage points from 27% in July.

Meanwhile, the share who considered the allegations likely to be untrue fell from 38% in July to 30% in September.

Those unable to determine whether the allegations were true or false increased from 32% to 39% over the same period.

These figures reflect respondents’ opinions and do not establish whether the allegations are true.

Impeachment Proceedings Continue

The survey comes amid developments in Duterte’s impeachment trial before the Senate.

On October 13, prosecutors withdrew three of the four impeachment charges to streamline the proceedings, leaving the charge concerning alleged unexplained wealth and undisclosed business interests. Duterte has denied wrongdoing, and the allegations remain subject to the impeachment process.

The Senate’s impeachment rules allow the vice president to appear personally or through legal counsel.
